The Greater Toronto Hockey League, along with the broader hockey community, is mourning the passing of Ross Magnus. Ross passed on April 30 at the age of 88 years old.

Ross served the Metro Toronto Hockey League (MTHL)/GTHL as Secretary-Manager and then as the first Executive Director from 1992 through 1998. Upon his retirement, he was elected as a GTHL Director in 1998 and served in that volunteer capacity until 2012. He was subsequently appointed as a Life Member of the GTHL in 2012.

Ross spent his entire life in and around the game of hockey. He played, coached and officiated within the Toronto Hockey League (THL)/MTHL/GTHL, the Ontario Hockey Association (OHA) and the Ontario Hockey League (OHL). He was presented with the OHA prestigious Gold Stick Award in 1984.

Ross is survived by his daughter Kendra; sons Randy (Lesley), Brent (Debbie) and Warren (Libby); grandchildren, Kyle (Amber), Trevor (Alexandra), Ryan (Justine), Christian and Emily; great-grandchildren, Rylee and Ryden along with many nieces, nephews and extended family and friends.

Ross’ family will be in the thoughts and hearts of the hockey community. The GTHL will remain forever grateful for Ross’ long standing commitment and leadership within our league and the game of hockey in Ontario.
