The 13th annual GTHL Top Prospects Game fuelled by Gatorade took place Tuesday, January 24 at Scotiabank Pond.
The top 40 Under-16 ‘AAA’ players took to the ice in-front of a sell-out crowd, with Team Antropov-Carnegie-Nolan coming from behind to defeat Team Clark-James-Stewart by a final score of 6-4.
The first period saw Team Clark-James-Stewart get off to a quick 2-0 lead with goals from Nico Addy (Toronto Jr. Canadiens) and Shamar Moses (Don Mills Flyers). Team Antropov-Carnegie-Nolan pushed hard, but Jack Ivankovic (Mississauga Senators) shut the door to maintain the two-goal lead.
In the second period, Team Antropov-Carnegie-Nolan finally broke through, scoring three-unanswered goals from Lev Katzin (Toronto Marlboros), Joseph Cadorin (Toronto Marlboros) and Ewan McChesney (Vaughan Kings). Luca Romano (Toronto Jr. Canadiens) responded for Team Clark-James-Stewart to tie the game up at three-a-piece heading into the intermission.
The third period saw Chase Del Colombo (Toronto Young Nationals) and William Moore (Toronto Marlboros) – in his second Top Prospects appearance – score to put Team-Antropov-Carnegie-Nolan up 5-3. Luca Romano buried his second of the game to cut the lead to 5-4, but Team Antropov-Carnegie-Nolan played lockdown defence the rest of the way.
Team Antropov-Carnegie-Nolan added an empty net goal as Moore potted his second of the game in the dying seconds of the third period to secure a 6-4 victory.
Shamar Moses was named the Gatorade Player of the Game for Team Clark-James-Stewart. Moses scored his team’s second goal of the game.
Chase Del Colombo was named the Gatorade Player of the Game for Team Antropov-Carnegie-Nolan. Del Colombo finished the game with a goal and an assist.
