GTHL Development Day presented by GSW welcomes over 75 participants

On February 16, the Greater Toronto Hockey League hosted its second PD Skill Development Day of the 2023-24 season at Scotiabank Pond. In its fifth season, the event sold out, welcoming 76 participants. The participants ranged from Under-9 to U13, with a varying skillset including house league to ‘AAA’.

A new 2024 addition to Development Day featured the presenting partner, Gitch Sportswear (GSW). GSW outfitted the participants in new GTHL Development jerseys, provided t-shirts, and provided GTHL on-ice instructors with new gear.

The day included two on-ice sessions, an off-ice session in the classroom, as well as dryland training. On the ice, the first session consisted of skating and skills, with a focus throughout the day on skills in stations and small area games. Above all, both on ice sessions prioritized having fun.

In the classroom, participants had their team building skills put to the test as they were tasked with building structures out of marshmallows and toothpicks in groups.

Participants also had the opportunity to go through a dryland session at Matt Nichol’s training facility, running through various activities focusing on fitness and fun.
