U15 AA Toronto East Enders continue participation in Orange Jersey Project

In recognition of National Day for Truth and Reconciliation on September 30, the Under-15 ‘AA’ Toronto East Enders participated in the Orange Jersey Project. The team wore the jerseys in an exhibition contest against the Halton Hills Thunder.

The team continued its efforts in the Orange Jersey Project for the second consecutive season after participating in October 2023 as the U14 ‘AA’ East Enders team.

“Wearing these jerseys is about more than just hockey – it’s about acknowledging the past and building a future rooted in respect, learning, and unity,” a team representative shared. “For these Ticats, it’s also an important opportunity to connect the sport they love with a deeper purpose: using their platform to support healing and reconciliation with Indigenous communities.”

The Orange Jersey Project uses the power of sport to educate young athletes about the history of the residential school system, strengthen the path towards truth and reconciliation with Indigenous Peoples, and promote the physical and mental wellness of Indigenous and non-Indigenous youth through sport.

The Orange Jersey Project was originally created by Tyler Fuller, an Indigenous man from Kawatoose First Nation located in Saskatchewan. Since the idea and the creation of both the Orange Shirt Society and the Orange Jersey Project, the initiative has evolved into a nationally recognized and impactful organization.
