The race to the Kraft Cup officially begins on Monday September 19 for GTHL A and AA squads. Based on last season’s results, here are some teams to keep an eye on.
Atom A Duffield Devils
After losing the Kraft Cup to the Vaughan Rangers, the Atom A Duffield Devils will be out to prove themselves this season. Their season starts off the way it ended with a match-up against the Vaughan Rangers on September 23.
Minor Peewee A Toronto Aeros
Last season’s Atom A Toronto Aeros got a taste of victory during the 2015-16 season after winning the King Clancy Cup. Expect them to strive hard for a playoff run.The Aeros start their season on September 24 at 1:05 p.m. when they face the Ted Reeve Thunder at Chesswood Arena.
Minor Bantam A Leaside Flames
The Peewee A Leaside Flames squad dominated in the 2015-16 Scotiabank GTHL Playoffs, winning the Kraft Cup after 10 straight wins. Can this year’s team repeat? Watch as they take to the ice at Leaside Memorial on September 20 against the Scarborough Ice Raiders.
Atom AA North Toronto
Talk about making an entrance. The Minor Atom AA North Toronto team gelled so well in their first season together that they won a Kraft Cup. Watch the reigning champs take on the Markham Islanders on September 20 at Thornhill Centre West.
Peewee AA Vaughan Rangers
After a tight battle with the Mississauga Braves, the Minor Peewee AA Vaughan Rangers ended up falling short of a Kraft Cup victory last season. The team will hit the ice against the Avalanche on September 19 at 6:15 p.m.
Minor Midget AA Mississauga Terriers
After being eliminated in the first round of the Scotiabank GTHL Playoffs, the Bantam AA Mississauga Terriers went on to battle their way to a Founders Cup championship. Expect them to go further in this year’s playoff run. The Terriers will face the Humberview Huskies in their first game of the season on September 22 at 9:15 p.m. at Iceland.
