GTHL announces celebrity coaches for 2025 Top Prospects Game fuelled by Gatorade

TORONTO, ON – The Greater Toronto Hockey League is proud to announce the four celebrity coaches who will take part in the 2025 GTHL Top Prospects Game fuelled by Gatorade. The game, featuring the top 40 GTHL Under-16 ‘AAA’ players, is set to take place on Wednesday, January 29 at Scotiabank Pond. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:00pm with doors opening at 6:00pm. 

For Team Blue, the new addition of GTHL alumnus Cody Hodgson joins returning celebrity coach Rane Carnegie. The returning duo of Nik Antropov and Anthony Stewart will be representing Team Red. 

Joining the celebrity coaches on Team Blue will be Toronto Jr. Canadiens’ head coach Matthew Viola and trainer Raymond De Souza, with Don Mills Flyers’ head coach Jamie Edwards and trainer Angelo Staggolis on the bench for Team Red. 

A limited number of tickets remain for the 2025 GTHL Top Prospects Game fuelled by Gatorade. Tickets, at a price of $17 per ticket plus HST, can be purchased online and are general admission. Tickets must be purchased in advance of the game. Tickets will not be available at the door. All tickets purchased will be final sale – no refunds.

Get to know the celebrity coaches for the 2025 GTHL Top Prospects Game fuelled by Gatorade: 

TEAM BLUE: Rane Carnegie & Cody Hodgson 

As a first-round pick in the 2001 OHL Priority Selection, Carnegie – youngest grandchild of the late Hockey Hall of Famer Dr. Herb Carnegie – brings a multitude of hockey experience to the bench. Carnegie spent two seasons in the OHL, followed by two seasons in the QMJHL including time spent as captain of the Halifax Mooseheads. Carnegie went on to play professional hockey in the AHL and ECHL, and finished his playing career overseas in Sweden, Finland, and France respectively. Carnegie is currently coaching in the GTHL as head coach of the U14 Toronto Titans. 

A first-time celebrity coach, Hodgson has over played in over 320 NHL games spent with the Vancouver Canucks, Buffalo Sabres, and Nashville Predators. A standout junior hockey player, Hodgson had numerous honours, including the OHL’s William 

Hanley Trophy (most sportsmanlike player), the Red Tilson Trophy (OHL’s most outstanding player), and the CHL Player of the Year awards in the 2008-09 season. Drafted 10th overall by the Canucks in the 2008 NHL Entry Draft, Hodgson would go on to participate in the team’s run to the 2011 Stanley Cup Finals. After retiring in 2016 due to a health diagnosis, Hodgson made a comeback in 2024 — signing a tryout with the Milwaukee Admirals of the AHL where he played 13 games before announcing the end to his playing career. Hodgson is now an assistant coach with the U14 Toronto Jr. Canadiens. 

TEAM RED: Nik Antropov & Anthony Stewart 

Making his third appearance as a GTHL Top Prospects Celebrity Coach, Antropov brings 14 seasons in the NHL to the bench. The Ust-Kamenogorsk, Kazakhstan native spent time with the Toronto Maple Leafs, New York Rangers, Atlanta Thrashers, and the Winnipeg Jets after being selected 10th overall in the 1998 by the Leafs in the 1998 NHL Entry Draft. In 788 career games, Antropov posted 465 points with 193 goals and 272 assists. Antropov also has experience on the international stage, representing Kazakhstan at the 1998 IIHF World Championship, 1999 World Junior Championship, and the 2006 Winter Olympics. Antropov’s eldest son Danil is a graduate of the GTHL, spending his U16 season with the Toronto Marlboros, while his youngest son Matvey is currently playing in the GTHL with the U13 Don Mills Flyers. 

Stewart, a GTHL alumnus, brings six NHL seasons spent with the Florida Panthers, Atlanta Thrashers, and Carolina Hurricanes. Prior to his professional career, the former North York Canadien notched 100 points in 34 games in his U15 season. Stewart then went on to enjoy a successful major junior career with the OHL’s Kingston Frontenacs, a team that he captained for two seasons. The first-round pick of the Panthers in the 2003 NHL Draft also experienced success at the international level, capturing silver and gold with Team Canada at the IIHF World Junior Championships in 2004 and 2005 respectively. Stewart, in addition to being the Chairman of Hockey Equality, is also the President of the Kitchener-Waterloo Siskins Jr. B Club and head coach of the U12 Markham Majors.
