The Ontario Hockey League held the seventh annual Under-18 Priority Selection for ‘AAA’ hockey players in Ontario on April 26. The U18 Priority Selection featured 18 Greater Toronto Hockey League players – the most of any minor hockey association.
The 18 GTHL players – including nine forwards, seven defencemen, and two goaltenders – represented 35 per cent of the total 51 players selected.
The Priority Selection included eight different GTHL clubs, with the Toronto Red Wings in front with five players. The North York Rangers and Toronto Marlboros were next, represented with three players each. The Toronto Young Nationals had two players selected, while the Mississauga Rebels, Toronto Jr. Canadiens, and Vaughan Kings rounded out the GTHL total with one player each.
Toronto Red Wings forward Jesse Venturo was the first GTHL player selected at third overall to the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds.
