22 GTHL alumni selected in 2021 NHL Entry Draft, Owen Power first overall

The 2021 National Hockey League Entry Draft, held virtually on July 23-24, featured 22 Greater Toronto Hockey League alumni, including former Mississauga Reps captain Owen Power leading the way at first overall to the Buffalo Sabres. The 21 GTHL alumni selected represent approximately 10 per cent of the 224 total players picked.

Luke Hughes, selected fourth overall by the New Jersey Devils, Brandt Clarke, selected eighth overall by the Los Angeles Kings, and Brennan Othmann, selected 16th overall by the Los Angeles Kings followed Power to represent 25 per cent of the first 16 picks of the draft. Wyatt Johnston, picked by the Dallas Stars 23rd overall, and Zach Dean, picked by the Vegas Golden Knights at 30th overall, were also among the total of seven GTHL alumni selected in the first round.

The second round had Daniil Chayka and Francesco Pinelli hear their names called by the Vegas Golden Knights and the Los Angeles Kings respectively, with five more GTHL alumni in Ayrton Martino (Dallas Stars), Justin Ertel (Dallas Stars), Tristan Lennox (New York Islanders), Josh Bloom (Buffalo Sabres), and Roman Schmidt (Tampa Bay Lightning) following in the third round.

Former Toronto Marlboros Ethan Del Mastro (Chicago Blackhawks) and Artem Guryey (San Jose Sharks) got the call in the fourth and fifth rounds respectively, with six more GTHL alumni picked in the final two rounds of the draft.

A total of 15 NHL teams selected GTHL alumni.
