A total of 76 GTHL players were selected by 20 OHL teams as part of the 2018 OHL Priority Selection. Half of the 20 players selected in the first round came from GTHL teams. Just over 25% of all 300 players selected came from one of 12 GTHL Minor Midget “AAA” teams.
The Peterborough Petes were the first team to draft a GTHL skater, selecting Toronto Marlboros forward Will Cuylle with the third overall pick. GTHL Player of the Year and Marlboros captain Jamie Drysdale was picked fourth overall by the Erie Otters. Quinton Byfield of the York-Simcoe Express went first overall to the Sudbury Wolves, while Byfield’s teammate Evan Vierling was picked second overall by the Flint Firebirds.
Each GTHL “AAA” Club had at least one player drafted, with the Toronto Marlboros, Vaughan Kings, and Mississauga Reps each seeing 13 players selected. The OHL Cup winning Jr. Canadiens were close behind with 12 players drafted.
