Around the G: September 2023 Preview

School is back in session and the hockey season is not far behind. Check out everything going on in September as we start to head back to the rink! 

  • Referee Clinics – Entry Level and Re-Certification (September) 

The GTHL is hosting Referee Clinics on various dates throughout the month of September. These clinics range from entry-level referees to Level 1-6 re-certifications for experienced referees.

  • Saleh Uncle Memorial Cup (September 9)

The Saleh Uncle Memorial Cup, held in honour of Saleh Hafejee, will take place in Cornell Park on Saturday, September 9. The community ball hockey tournament serves to remember the contribution of Hafejee to the Muslim community and youth participation in ball hockey.  

The tournament fosters unity amongst the community, with teams and families attending from all over the GTA. The tournament will be a day filled with friendly competition, camaraderie, and shared memories. It will also include food, bouncy castles, and an award ceremony to enhance the overall experience for participants and attendees.

  • Scarborough Ice Raiders Early Bird Tournament (September 22-24) 

The Scarborough Ice Raiders are hosting an early bird tournament for Under-10 to U16 ‘A’ and U10 to U15 ‘AA’ divisions. All games will be played out of Don Montgomery and Commander Park Arenas.

  • Toronto Marlboros International Friendship Tournament (September 22-24) 

The Toronto Marlboros are hosting the 29th annual International Friendship Tournament! Teams in the U10, U11, and U12 ‘AAA’ divisions will be playing out of Canlan Etobicoke, Chesswood Arena, Westwood Arena, Canlan York, and Ford Performance Centre.

  • Toronto Red Wings Early Bird Tournament (September 22-24) 

The Toronto Red Wings are hosting the 41st annual Early Bird Tournament. Teams from U13, U14, and U15 ‘AAA’ divisions are eligible to enter. All games will be played out of Chesswood Arena.

  • The Victoria Village Fall Invitational (September 22-24) 

Victoria Village House League is hosting an invite-only tournament for U11 to U18 Select teams.

  •  Toronto Titans U16 & U18 ‘AAA’ Early Bird Prospects Tournament (September 25 – October 1) 

The Toronto Titans are hosting the 15th annual U16 ‘AAA’ Early Bird Prospects Tournament at Scotiabank Pond and Chesswood Arena in late September. The Titans will welcome 43 U16 ‘AAA’ teams from across Ontario and the United States to compete in the premier early bird tournament for this age group.

The Toronto Titans are also hosting the 10th annual U18 ‘AAA’ Early Bird Prospects Tournament the same week. This tournament will be played out of Scotiabank Pond and Chesswood Arena as well, and will feature over 20 U18 ‘AAA’ teams from across Ontario and the United States.

  • Vaughan Rangers ‘AA’ Early Bird Tournament (September 25 – October 1) 

The Vaughan Rangers will be hosting a ‘AA’ division tournament for U11, U13, U15, U17, and U18 age groups. All games will be played out of rinks in Vaughan.

  • West Mall ‘A’ Early Bird Tournament (September 25 – October 1) 

The West Mall Lightning are hosting an ‘A’ division tournament for U11 to U15 age groups. All games will be played out of rinks in Etobicoke.
