GTHL supports inaugural Come to Sleigh, Shine’s first Para Ice Hockey Tournament

On October 10, the Greater Toronto Hockey League was proud to support Come to Sleigh, Shine’s inaugural Para Ice Hockey Tournament at Scotiabank Pond. The event, alongside Shine Dreamers and participants such as Paralympian Kevin Rempel, Wendel Clark, Darcy Tucker, Mike Krushelnyski, Olympian Geraldine Heaney, and Sportsnet’s Evanka Osmak, raised over $100,000 in support of accessibility for young people living with severe physical disabilities.

Come to Sleigh encouraged participants to push themselves outside of their comfort zone for the opportunity to experience the accessible sport of para ice hockey for the first time. GTHL Executive Director and Chief Operating Officer Scott Oakman hit the ice to give the sport a try.

For over 35 years, Shine Foundation has helped young Canadians aged 11 to 21 living with severe physical disabilities see a future full of opportunities and potential by creating customized, life-changing dreams sparked by their imagination. The Shine program helps them to see themselves differently as someone who can versus someone who can’t.

The GTHL is proud to have played a role in the significant funds and awareness raised, as Shine makes an outstanding impact on the lives of many young people and their chance to experience a life-changing Shine Dream.
