In-between playing regular season games, GTHL teams have been busy dominating at tournaments throughout the continent. Here are just a few of the many tournament success stories.
Mississauga Terriers Atom AA – International Silver Stick (Sarnia)
Recording an impressive 3-0 record in the round-robin, the Mississauga Terriers Atom AA squad managed to fend off the top-ranked teams from across North America to triumph to a tournament victory.
“I was so nervous in the last few minutes of the finals. When we won I was so happy I couldn’t believe we did it,” said Nicholas Perrotta, a member of the victorious Terriers Atom AA team. “One of my favourite parts was beating North Toronto [#1 ranked team] in the semi-finals. We knew we had to work hard as a team, especially since we were down some players.”
The Terriers are only the fifth Atom AA team from the GTHL to have ever won the coveted championship. This is the fourth tournament title for the Terriers Atom AA team this season. Their banner will now be displayed in Erin Mills Arena.
Toronto Royals Minor Bantam AA – Toronto Aeros Winter Challenge Champions
Defeating a challenging Toronto Eagles team in the final, the Toronto Royals Bantam AA squad finished the round-robin stage of the tournament as the top seed. Head Coach John Sergnese attributed the tournament success to great teamwork and a strong work ethic.
Toronto Marlboros Bantam AAA – John Reid Tournament Champions
The trek to Edmonton was worthwhile for the Marlboros Bantam AAA team, who defeated Yale Academy to run away with gold at the John Reid tournament. They even ran into a GTHL grad.
Vaughan Panthers Minor Atom A – Toronto Aeros Winter Challenge Champions
In a challenging match-up against first place Forest Hill, the Vaughan Panthers Minor Atom A team persevered to a 3-2 victory and a tournament championship.
Jr. Canadiens Peewee AAA – The Cup – North American Championship
In their third tournament championship of the season, the Peewee AAA Jr. Canadiens defeated Mid-Fairfield (#2 ranked team in the U.S.) to take it all.
“We had a very difficult final day of the tournament playing three close games in one day,” explained Head Coach John Winstanley. “Our players competed hard and played a complete game.”
East York Bulldogs Minor Bantam Select – West London Byron Optimist Tournament
Competing against some of the top select teams from around the province, the Minor Bantam East York Bulldogs came out on top at the West London Bryron Optimist Tournament.
