Two First Goals, One Puck

The Peewee Canadian Tire Oilers had two players score their first-ever goals with the same puck in the season’s first game.

Joelle Lyte, playing in his first-ever league hockey game, scored what was also the Oilers’ first goal of the season. Before the puck could be swapped out for posterity, second-year Peewee player Angelo Kontogianopoulos scored his first career goal.

Teammates celebrated the goals despite losing the game, and Oilers’ Coach Mike now had a dilemma: what to do with the puck?

“I sawed it in half, like two sides of an Oreo cookie, and gave each player their piece of history at the next practise. Everybody in the room thought it was great.”
