Under-16 OHL Gold Cup

UNDER-16 OHL GOLD CUP
The Under-16 OHL Gold Cup is an annual event featuring the top players in Ontario. The tournament allows players to showcase their talent and serves as an evaluation in the selection process for Team Ontario.

The 2017 Gold Cup will feature the top 2001-born players in Ontario competing in an 8-team tournament comprised of 160 players from the Greater Toronto Hockey League (GTHL, two teams), Ontario Minor Hockey Association (OMHA, two teams), Minor Hockey Alliance of Ontario (ALLIANCE, one team), Ottawa District Minor Hockey Association (ODMHA, one team), Hockey Northwestern Ontario (HNO, one team) and the Northern Ontario Hockey Association (NOHA, one team).

The GTHL will send two teams of 20 players to the 2017 Gold Cup. Players must have a 2001 birth year and a GTHL registration card to be eligible for the event. The 40 players will be selected by Under-17 evaluators with input from Ontario Hockey League Central Scouting. Selection is determined by on and off-ice performance, not by a player’s draft position.

The OHL Gold Cup tournament is being held to not only showcase Ontario’s top U16 talent, but it is an evaluation opportunity for Hockey Canada to select potential player’s for Canada’s 3 teams that will compete in the World U-17 Hockey Challenge.

The 2017 OHL Gold Cup will run from May 4 to 7 at the Activa Sportsplex in Kitchener.  The 40 players selected to represent the GTHL at the Gold Cup will be announced in late March. More information will be provided as it becomes available.

This restructured Hockey Canada Program of Excellence is a transition from the regional Under-17 camps previously hosted by HNO, ODHA, and OHF member partners.
