Midget All-Star Festival Recap

Goal scoring wasn’t hard to come by at the 2017 Midget All-Star Festival, as a combined 31 goals were scored over the three games played.

MIDGET AAA ALL-STAR GAME

Team Red 5, Team White 4

Team White jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the first with a pair of goals from Kobe Desmond (Vaughan Kings) and Cooper Sharpe (Young Nationals).

Goals from Scott Gaetz (Toronto Marlboros), Elijah Brereton-Gonsalves (Mississauga Rebels), and Xavier Drummond (Markham Majors) proved vital in the second as Team Red evened the score at 3-3.

Both teams would trade markers to begin the third with Matthew O’Brien (Young Nationals) and Gaetz scoring their second goals of the night.

Scott Gaetz was awarded the MVP honours for Team Red, while Vaughan Kings goaltender James Elmhurst received the MVP for Team White.

MIDGET A ALL-STAR GAME

Team Red 10, Team White 7

Hillcrest Canadiens forward Max Levy opened the scoring with a shorthanded marker to give Team White the early 1-0 advantage. In the final minutes of the first period, Team Red defenceman Aiden Stanley (Leaside Flames) tied the game up at one with a seeing-eye shot from the point.

The second frame did not disappoint. Team White scored a total of six goals, led by Hillcrest Canadiens teammates Max Levy, Aaron Fuss, and Ross Brzozowicz. The three combined for five of those markers. Cooper Mair (Goulding Park Rangers) and Josh Biderman (North York Knights) each notched a goal and an assist in the period to keep Team Red in the game, as they trailed 7-5 after 40.

The third belonged to Team Red.  Team Red MVP Matthew Di Poce (Vaughan Rangers) led the visiting squad with a goal and an assist, bringing his game total up to three points. Team Red would score five in the third to win 10-7 over Team White.

Team White MVP honours went to Hillcrest Canadiens forward Aaron Fuss.

Team Red 3, Team White 2

Team Red jumped out to an early 1-0 lead thanks to a goal from Lucas Cook of the Streetsville Tigers. The designated visitors would add to their lead in the second thanks to Mario Lapadula of the Vaughan Panthers, who bulged the twine to increase Team Red’s lead to 2-0.

Team Red experienced some push back in the third as Team White cracked the scoresheet with a powerplay goal from Humber Valley Sharks forward Turner McTiernan.

The jubilation was short-lived, however, as Cook played the role of heartbreaker for Team Red as he netted another to make it 3-1 for Team Red. James Keane (Mississauga Jets) would add a late one for Team White with no prevail as Team Red took the game 3-2.

Dylan Cox, a member of the Streetsville Tigers, took home MVP honours for Team Red. James Keane (Mississauga Jets) was named MVP for Team White.
