Clancy and Founders Championship Recap

Overtime thrillers, last-minute winning goals, and late game comebacks – the 2018 King Clancy and Founders Cup Finals were a season finale that did not disappoint. Over 17 championship matchups highlighted the final weekend of the 2017-18 season. Congrats to all the champions.

Ted Reeve Thunder vs. Toronto Royals (Minor Atom A – Clancy)
A better regular season record and a win against their opponent early in the tournament made the Ted Reeve Thunder the favourites heading into the championship final. A tight battle between the two teams led the underdog Toronto Royals to prevail, winning by a score of 3-2 to close out the season.

Ted Reeve Thunder vs. Scarborough Young Bruins (Atom AA – Clancy)
After finishing three points behind the Thunder and going 0-2-1 against them in the regular season, the Scarborough Young Bruins managed to come up on top when it mattered the most. A close 2-1 final was enough for the Young Bruins to finish the season as King Clancy champions.

Avalanche vs. Toronto Wolverines (Minor Peewee AA – Clancy)
The Avalanche and Wolverines exchanged wins all season long, but it was the Avalanche who would dominate Clancy competition leading up to championship final. Tied 2-2 at the end of regulation, overtime would solve nothing as the two teams headed for a shootout. After falling to the Avalanche twice in Clancy matchups, the Toronto Wolverines managed to come out on top as King Clancy champs.

Toronto Eagles vs. North Toronto (Minor Bantam AA – Founders)
Going 2-0-0 against North Toronto in Founders competition, the Eagles found themselves down 3-0 against NT heading into the third period of their championship final. Finding the determination to prove themselves, the Eagles put up four unanswered goals in the third period to defeat North Toronto, winning themselves a Clancy title in the process.

West Toronto Renegades vs. North York Knights (Minor Midget A – Clancy)
A game that looked destined for overtime, the West Toronto Renegades were able to find the back of the Knights net with under a minute left on the clock. The Knights failed to answer within the dying seconds of the game, leading the Renegades to be crowned as Clancy champs.
