Officials From GTHL, MHL, and NYHL Honoured at 14th Annual Official Awards

Every year the GTHL certifies over 1300 officials. The opportunity to honour and thank those who have contributed to the Hockey Canada Officiating program takes place every year in a ‘pub-style’ event.

Congratulations to all of the winners from the Mississauga Hockey League, North York Hockey League, and Greater Toronto Hockey League.

Mississauga Hockey League (MHL)

MHL

The George McBride Memorial Award is presented to the MHL Referee as selected from his/her peers who portrays characteristics of dedication, positive attitude, fair play, communication skills and an overwhelming desire to be a dedicated member of the league. The winner for the 2017-18 season is Ed Beattie (Pictured Left Centre).

The Hockey Canada Most Deserving Official Award recognizes the official who has contributed the most to the officiating program at any level, in any capacity. The 2017-18 award winner is John Macdonald (Pictured Right Center).

The Hockey Canada Most Improved Official Award. Presented to the MHL Officiating Program official who has shown the most improvement as an official over the year. The 2017-18 award winner is Liam Beaudoin (Pictured Far Right).

The Hockey Canada Most Promising Official Award recognizes the MHL Official who has shown a great deal of expertise and potential. The 2017-18 award winner is Ryan McCann (Could not attend event).

North York Hockey League (NYHL)

Each year, the NYHL honours one on-ice official who exemplifies a great attitude, work ethic and overall desire to help the NYHL in any capacity they can.  This award is named after Jim Hickey who was one of the first referee supervisors in the NYHL.  Jim was an official in the Etobicoke Hockey League as well as the OHA. This award is presented annually by Mike Duggan, who is currently a supervisor with the NYHL after a long stint as a supervisor in the OHA. The award also encompasses Hockey Canada’s Most Deserving Official Award. Steve Gerry (Pictured Far Right) is the winner for 2017-18.

The Hockey Canada Most Improved Official Award recognizes to the NYHL official who has shown the most improvement as an official over the year. The 2017-18 winner is Róisín Keane (Pictured Center).

The Hockey Canada Most Promising Official Award recognizes the NYHL official who has shown a great deal of expertise and potential. The 2017-18 winner was Noah Anderson (Pictured Center Left).

Greater Toronto Hockey League (GTHL)

The Hockey Canada Most Dedicated Official Award recognizes the GTHL Rep official who has contributed the most to the officiating program at any level, in any capacity. The 2017-18 winner was Troy Whetstone (Pictured Right Side).

The Hockey Canada Most Improved Official Award recognizes the GTHL Rep official who has shown the most improvement as an official over the year. The 2017-18 winner is Darrin Vanslack (Pictured Far Left).

The Hockey Canada Most Promising Official Award recognizes the GTHL Rep official who has shown a great deal of expertise and potential. The 2017-18 winner is Justin Noble (Pictured Left).

The GTHL Service Award is given to the person who is the most dedicated and committed to the GTHL officiating program. The 2017-18 winner is Andy Clark (Pictured Far Right).

The Gus Gordon Memorial Officials Award is presented annually by the GTHL Supervisors to the official who displays a balance between positive attitude, dedication, competence, and improvement. The 2017-18 winner is Neil McTaggart (Pictured Centre Right).
