Game Preview: GTHL Top Prospects Game, Powered by Under Armour

When taking a seat at Scotiabank Pond on the evening of December 11, it’s almost guaranteed spectators will be watching at least a couple of future NHL talents. Heading into the tenth rendition of the GTHL Top Prospects Games, Powered by Under Armour, the event has seen over 75 players drafted into the NHL, with over 20 more eligible for the upcoming 2019 NHL Entry Draft.

Celebrity coaches Wendel ClarkAdam GravesMike WeaverDarcy TuckerShayne Corson, and Wayne Primeau will all step behind the bench for the second consecutive year to lead rosters featuring two goaltenders, six defensemen and 12 forwards. Nine different Minor Midget “AAA” clubs will be represented at the event, with the Toronto Marlboros and Toronto Red Wings leading all clubs with nine players each.

“This has been one of my goals this season to participate in this prestigious game,” said Marlboros forward Jack Beck, who will be representing Team Graves-Primeau-Tucker. “This will be a memorable experience in my hockey career that I will never forget.”

In addition to the prestige, players see the event as an opportunity to test their skill set among the best in the League.

“It will be cool to play with so many GTHL players who I don’t usually get to see on the ice together,” said Toronto Red Wings defenseman Andre Anania. “It’s exciting to find out how all of us handle the game when we play against top players and different linemates and partners.”

Seven players from the undefeated Don Mills Flyers (21-0-1) will be playing for Team Clark-Weaver-Corson, while eight players, including two goaltenders, from the second place Toronto Young Nationals (18-3-2) will represent Team Graves-Primeau-Tucker. Despite the differences in their uniforms during regular season play, all players who take to the ice will have one thing on their mind – impressing the scouts.

“I see myself playing in the OHL next season and the OHL is where I want to be to continue my hockey career,” explained Beck. “I have been counting down the days and practicing hard to be best prepared for a great night.”

Players will hit the ice for the 10th annual GTHL Top Prospects Game, Powered by Under Armour on Tuesday, December 11 at 7:30 p.m. at Scotiabank Pond. Click here to purchase tickets.
