OHL Cup Powered by Under Armour Wild Card Recap

Goaltenders stole the show in the four Wild Card Play-In Games, with each of the four goaltenders registering a shutout in their respective wins.

WC1 – North Central Predators vs. Mississauga Senators | Preds win 3-0
After a scoreless first period, the Predators would open the scoring midway through the second. The OMHA-ETA West division leaders scored two more to blank the Mississauga Senators and earn a spot in the OHL Cup powered by Under Armour round-robin. Their next game will be against the GTHL leading Don Mills Flyers at 2:15 pm on Wednesday.

WC2 – North York Rangers vs. Niagara North Stars | Rangers win 3-0
Different Wild Card Game, same 3-0 score. Granted a Wild Card Play-In Game via the Tournament Selection Committee, the North York Rangers proved they belonged at the tournament. Rangers goaltender Tony Theodoropoulos earned the shutout after staying solid throughout 45 minutes. The Rangers will face the Toronto Nationals 10:45 am on Wednesday.

WC3 – Guelph Jr. Gryphons vs. London Jr Knights | Knights win 1-0
The London Jr. Knights will make their fifth consecutive OHL Cup powered by Under Armour appearance after defeating the Guelph Jr. Gryphons. The Knights will play in the Shanahan Division alongside the Quinte Red Devils, Thunder Bay Kings, and Toronto Marlboros.

WC4 – Waterloo Wolves vs. Mississauga Rebels | Rebels win 2-0
A game that looked destined for overtime had its fate changed at midway through the third when Christian Catalano tucked one past Wolves netminder Marshall Nicholls. An empty netter would seal the Rebels fate as the fourth Wild Card team to enter the OHL Cup powered by Under Armour round-robin. The Rebels will face the Toronto Red Wings on Wednesday at 4 pm.

The winner of each 7:25 pm game will go onto play one another to determine who gets the fifth and final Wild Card spot at the 2019 OHL Cup powered by Under Armour. The game will be played at 7:30 am on Wednesday on Scotiabank Pond #1.

Mississauga Senators vs. Niagara North Stars | Senators win 4-3
A hard fought battle between the Senators and North Stars saw the Sens come out on top, eliminating the North Stars in OT.

Guelph Jr. Gryphons vs. Waterloo Wolves | Waterloo wins 5-2
The Waterloo Wolves will advance to the Wild Card final on Wednesday morning with their 5-2 victory over the Guelph Jr. Gryphons. The Wolves, who qualified for the Wild Card by defeating the London Jr. Knights in their series, will see their OHL Cup hopes continue.
