The Survey Results Are In

The GTHL recently asked parents to fill out a survey on return to play and many of you did just that! Thank you, I know you have been very busy during these often confusing times.

Your answers to the questions were informative and will assist us as we continue to plan for what’s next. You are thinking about the return of hockey, and many of you want to see it recommence as quickly possible, though there is concern about the cost of the game.

One question brought a real split in opinion, almost 50/50. That was to this question: Would you be willing to drop off and then pick up your child at an arena and not go in to watch? Your comments made one thing clear, you want to make sure there is appropriate adult supervision to ensure the safety of the players. This is something that will now be at the forefront of our planning.

You can read the answers to the Yes/No questions here.

You also had lots of questions. Here are a couple:

1) If we have a shorter season, will the fees reflect the short season? I don’t want to pay for the regular season that we normally have and only play 1/3 or 1/2 of it and not get any money back.

The GTHL has established an 18 person committee to come up with ways of cutting costs for the season. They expect to complete a report by mid-August and will have recommendations on everything from registration fees to the cost of tournaments.

2)  I have heard that some private rinks have reopened and are offering hockey clinics. The GTHL says we are not allowed to go into rinks. What do we do, my kids really want to play?

Yes, a lot of players want to get on the ice. At the moment the rules from the Ontario government are clear. The only hockey activities allowed are under the auspices of professional sport, provincial or national sport organizations. The GTHL falls under the Ontario Hockey Federation as well as Hockey Canada – both of which are classified as provincial and national sport organizations. At this stage, there are no on-ice Hockey Canada, Ontario Hockey Federation or GTHL activities operating.

Please note our Frequently Asked Questions page is updated regularly as the situation progresses.

Any comments, questions, or suggestions regarding can be directed to Adrienne Middlebrook at the GTHL.
