Hockey Canada Foundation Assist Fund, Jumpstart providing funding opportunities

The Hockey Canada Foundation Assist Fund and Canadian Tire Jumpstart Charities are making it easier for families to play the game they love.

The Hockey Canada Foundation Assist Fund provides subsidies to assist with hockey registration fees for Canadian youth. Eligible Canadians can receive up to $500 in hockey registration fees per player, with $1 million in funding available.

More than $350,000 of the funding is dedicated to BIPOC youth, provided by Scotiabank.

Jumpstart, in partnership with the Greater Toronto Hockey League (GTHL) announced $480,000 available as part of the Playmakers Grant Program for the 2021-2022 season.

The funding is open to both GTHL organizations and individual players. Community Grants will assist with operational support, administrative costs and programming support to specifically aid organizations with the costs of delivering sport and recreational programming. Applications for the Playmakers Community Grant can be submitted through Jumpstart’s grant system as of Aug. 9 and until Nov. 1. Organizations can apply for support up to $15,000 and all applications will be evaluated and prioritized using an Equity, Diversity and Inclusion score based on the applicant’s efforts to address systemic barriers to sport and recreation. Individual Grants can be used to support registration fees associated with either GTHL house league or competitive programs. Applications for Individual Grants will open Aug. 16 and will close Dec. 1 (or when funding runs out.) Applications are to be submitted through Jumpstart’s grant system, https://jumpstartgrants.smartsimple.ca/, and will be required to meet Jumpstart grant criteria. Grants will be a maximum of $500 per child.

The Playmakers Program, established in 2019, is a partnership between the GTHL and Canadian Tire Jumpstart Charities. Funds are distributed annually to qualifying families to help alleviate the costs associated with participating in organized hockey, and funding is provided to eligible organizations to run programming with a focus on child and community development.

The partnership will see Jumpstart match funds contributed by the GTHL Legacy Fund, comprising total funding of more than $1.5 million over five years.
