38 GTHL alumni set for 2022 NHL Playoffs

On Monday, May 3, the puck dropped on the NHL Playoffs with 38 Greater Toronto Hockey League alumni beginning their quest for the Stanley Cup.

The Toronto Maple Leafs – who are tied with the Dallas Stars with seven-a-piece – have jumped ahead to a 1-0 series lead over defending champions, the Tampa Bay Lightning. Anthony Cirelli (Reps Hockey Club) and Nick Paul (Mississauga Senators/Reps Hockey Club) represent the GTHL on Tampa Bay’s roster.

The Edmonton Oilers, who dropped Game 1 to Andreas Anthanasiou (Toronto Titans), Sean Durzi (Mississauga Rebels) and the Los Angeles Kings on Monday night, house the second-most in the GTHL alumni department with Warren Foegele (Toronto Young Nationals), Zach Hyman (Toronto Red Wings), Connor McDavid (Toronto Marlboros), Ryan McLeod (Marlboros), and Darnell Nurse (Don Mills Flyers).

Jordan Kyrou (Senators), Ryan O’Reilly (Toronto Jr. Canadiens), Jordan Binnington (Vaughan Kings), and the St. Louis Blues took a 1-0 series lead over the Minnesota Wild, while Sam Bennett (Marlboros), Ryan Lomberg (Reps Hockey Club), Ben Chiarot (Mississauga Icedogs), and the Florida Panthers begin their postseason Tuesday night versus Tom Wilson (Jr. Canadiens) and the Washington Capitals.

The Carolina Hurricanes – with three GTHL alumni in Max Domi (Flyers), Brendan Smith (Marlboros), and Jack LaFontaine (Flyers) – downed the Boston Bruins 5-1 in Game 1 on Monday night, while Evan Rodrigues (Marlboros), Mark Friedman (Flyers), and the Pittsburgh Penguins begin their series against Ryan Strome (Marlboros) and the New York Rangers on Tuesday.
