Recap: 2024 Ontario Provincial Championships

The 2023-24 season has come to an end and with that, the Greater Toronto Hockey League is proud to share the accomplishments of clubs who participated in various Ontario Provincial Championships this year!
 
Congratulations to the following clubs that qualified for a 2024 Ontario Hockey Federation Championship:

Congratulations to the following clubs that qualified for a 2024 OHL Cup this year:

Under-16 OHL Cup   Mississauga Rebels, North York Rangers, Toronto Marlboros, Vaughan Kings 

 

Under-13 AA OHF Championship 

The Vaughan Rangers went 2-2-0 during Round Robin play, setting up a Semi-Final match-up against the Ontario Minor Hockey Association’s (OMHA) King Rebellion. The Rangers went on to win 5-3, securing their spot in the Championship Final against the Timmins Kiwanis North Stars. The Rangers finished the tournament as a Finalist, falling 5-0 in the Championship Game.  

Vaughan Rangers - U13 AA OHF Finalist

Under-15 AA OHF Championship 

The Vaughan Panthers cruised through Round Robin play with a record of 3-0-1. The Panthers smoothly won their Semi-Final match-up against the London Jr. Knights to set-up a Championship Final against the Soo Jr. Greyhounds. A tight contest, the game ended in regulation with a 3-3 tie. The Panthers came out on top, scoring the game-winning goal in overtime to secure the championship with a 4-3 final. 

Vaughan Panthers - U15 AA OHF Champion

Under-18 AA OHF Championship 

The Markham Islanders moved onto Championship Sunday with a Round Robin record of 2-2-0. In their Semi-Final match-up, the Islanders played a tough Soo Jr. Greyhounds team. The score remained tied at 3-3 after regulation with the Greyhounds scoring in overtime to advance to the Championship Final.  

Under-13 AAA All-Ontario Championship 

The Toronto Jr. Canadiens dominated Round Robin play with a record of 6-0-0. The host Vaughan Kings finished not far behind the Jr. Canadiens with a 4-2-0 record. Both teams advanced to the Semi-Finals where the Jr. Canadiens defeated the Quinte Red Devils 5-1 and the Kings defeated the Elgin-Middlesex Canucks 5-1. The Championship Final saw the Kings capture gold, winning by a final score of 3-1.

Vaughan Kings - Under-13 AAA All-Ontario Championship

Under-15 AAA All-Ontario Championship 

The Don Mills Flyers went undefeated during Round Robin play, setting up a Semi-Final match-up with the host Ottawa Valley Titans. The Flyers were able to hold on and win 3-2, advancing them to the Championship Final against the Ottawa Myers Automotive. Ottawa Myers scored first, however, the Flyers scored two goals in the third period to win 2-1. 

Don Mills Flyers - Under-15 AAA All-Ontario Championship

Under-18 AAA Central Region Championship  

The Vaughan Kings travelled to Sault Ste. Marie for a shot at a spot in the Telus Cup. During Round Robin play, the Kings went 3-2-0, advancing to the Semi-Finals against the Waterloo Wolves. In the Semi-Final match-up, the Kings were defeated 3-1 by the Wolves.  

Under-14 OHL Cup 

The GTHL was proudly represented by the Markham Majors, Mississauga Senators, Toronto Jr. Canadiens, and the Vaughan Kings at this year’s Under-14 OHL Cup held in Kingston, Ontario. Following Round Robin play, all four GTHL teams advanced to the Quarter-Finals, with the Markham Majors and Mississauga Senators eventually facing off in the Championship Final. The Majors defeated the Senators 2-1 in the Championship Final.

Under-16 OHL Cup 

The Mississauga Rebels, North York Rangers, Toronto Marlboros, and Vaughan Kings all qualified for this year’s U16 OHL Cup. All four GTHL teams made it to the Quarter-Finals, with the North York Rangers and Vaughan Kings advancing to the Semi-Finals. North York ended up losing to the Oakville Rangers in their Semi-Final match-up, while the Vaughan Kings defeated the Peterborough Minor Petes to secure their spot in the Championship Final against Oakville. The Vaughan Kings outshot Oakville 25-9 in the Championship Final, but lost 1-0 in the end.
