Tucked away in an industrial off of Highway 401 lies Meadowvale 4 Rinks – home to the Meadowvale Minor Hockey Association (MMHA). Unassuming at first glance, it’s not until you step inside that you start to feel that something special.
“My favourite memories come from every time I enter the arena,” says Christine Delongte, a parent and team volunteer with the Association. “From the friends we have made, to the laughs we have in the stands to all the great coaches we have had.”
One of the youngest and largest associations within the Mississauga Hockey League (MHL), the MMHA was founded in 1976 and has since seen rapid growth. When the Association celebrates their 40th anniversary next week, they will do so with a booming Tyke (Ice Puppy) program, and Notice to Juvenile divisions in both house league and at the competitive A level.
To celebrate the big 4-0, Meadowvale Hockey has planned a year’s worth of exciting events, including kick-off celebrations on Sunday, September 11, 2016 that will include cake, gourmet food trucks, a rolling video games truck, music, tattoos and face painting and more. Celebrations will continue on Sunday, September 18, 2016 when Meadowvale sponsors will provide surprises, treats and mascots. All celebrations will happen at Meadowvale 4 Rinks in Mississauga.
Meadowvale Memories
Over the years, countless parents, volunteers, coaches, and players have accumulated memories of their time at Meadowvale. Here are just a few:
“My favourite memory was as a coach in Peewee. We won the MHL championship and then won the GTHL Playdowns. This allowed us to represent the GTHL at the OHFs. We are one of only 4 MMHA teams that have attended the OHFs – a great honour and achievement.”- Steve Johnston, Acting President, Meadowvale Hockey
“I am grateful for the lifelong friendships I have made at Meadowvale. We are buddies on and off the ice!” – Andrew Johnston, Midget Jr player going into his 12th year at Meadowvale Hockey
“I love seeing new kids in the arena, learning to skate and play hockey at the same time. I like that Meadowvale Hockey has several tiers so that kids can be placed in an appropriate skill level and comfort zone. I enjoy volunteering with Meadowvale Hockey because it’s widely recognized, well organized. and has great people to work with. I also like that we teach kids to play as a team, have fun and enjoy hockey.” – Jason D’Gama, Parent & Board Member
