Around the G: Dec. 2-4

The holiday spirit has arrived at arenas around the League. See which teams were letting their spirit shine this weekend.

Atom AA

Back in October, a strong North Toronto (15-1-1) squad was inching up on the then first place North York Knights (14-5-1). Cut to two months later and North Toronto have gained a two point lead over the Knights with three games in hand. The Knights, however, have shown promise in recent games, defeating the third place York Mills (10-6-3) squad 2-1 on Sunday. Teams should keep an eye on the Toronto Aeros (10-9-2) who haven’t lost a game since early November.

In the West, the battle for first is fierce. The Streetsville Tigers (16-2-0) missed the opportunity to record an important two points over the weekend after a loss to the Toronto Eagles. The Tigers currently have a one point lead over the Vaughan Rangers (15-3-1) with a game in hand. The Rangers last lost came at the expense of the Tigers in mid-November. The division is likely to be decided in the final few games of the season with a mere three points separating the third and first place teams.

Other finals from Atom AA weekend action:

East – Toronto Shamrocks 3, Ted Reeve Thunder 5
East – North Toronto 6, Leaside Flames 0

West – Toronto Wolverines 2, West Mall Lightning 3
West –
Humber Valley Sharks 1, Toronto Eagles 5

Minor Peewee A

The first place Avalanche (13-1-3) can relax a bit, sitting seven points ahead of the second place Vaughan Rangers (7-4-8) with two games in hand. The race for third place will be tight going down the stretch, with the Vaughan Panthers (8-3-5), West Mall Lightning (9-6-3), and Toronto Eagles (8-6-5) all within three games of one another with 21 points apiece.

Much like the West, the East has the Leaside Flames (17-2-1) in a strong first place position with an eight point lead over second place North Toronto (13-2-1). The Flames, however, should be keeping a watchful eye on North Toronto who have four games after winning six or their last seven. Forest Hill (10-7-2) managed to snap the Goulding Park Rangers (9-8-3) five game winning streak after a 2-1 victory on Sunday. The Ranger’s last loss came in mid-November at the hands of the same Forest Hill squad.

Other finals from Minor Peewee A weekend action:

East – Forest Hill 0, Don Mills Mustangs 1
East – Markham Islanders 3, Toronto Aces 1

West – Toronto Wolverines 1, West Toronto Renegades 4
West – Humber Valley Sharks 4, Toronto Wolverines 1

Minor Midget AAA

Players from the Mississauga Reps (13-1-6) may hold bragging rights heading into the Top Prospects game, sitting in first over a strong Toronto Young Nationals (14-2-3) squad. The Reps, however, will have to keep up the pace if they want to fend off the Nats who currently sit one point back with a game in hand.

The Mississauga Senators (11-5-6) won two back-to-back over the weekend to come within three points of the second place Nats. The Senators last loss came at the expense of the Toronto Marlboros in mid-November.

Other finals from Minor Midget AAA weekend action:

Toronto Red Wings 4, Toronto Titans 3
North York Rangers 0, Markham Majors 3
