GTHL Players Well-Represented at Hockey Canada’s Summer Showcase Series’

A total of 29 GTHL grads will take part in Hockey Canada’s Summer Showcase series’, taking place July 26 to August 6 in Calgary and Toronto.

Entering its second year, the National Teams’ Summer Showcase will kick-off in Calgary with the Canada’s National Men’s Summer Under-18 selection camp (44 players), and Canada’s National Under-17 development camp (111 players) from July 26 to August 2. Canada’s National Junior Team Sport Chek Summer Development Camp (41 players) will take place in Toronto from July 30 to August 2 and will include a four-game series against the United States, Sweden, and Finland from August 3-6 in Plymouth, Michigan.

Canada’s National Men’s Under-17 development camp

Over a quarter of players who participated in the 2016 OHL Gold Cup have received invitations to Canada’s National Under-17 development camp, with 17 players coming from the GTHL. This years OHL Cup silver medalists, the Toronto Marlboros, are particularly well represented with five players invited.

Canada’s National Under-17 development camp will run from July 26 to August 1 and include 111 players – 12 goaltenders, 36 defencemen, and 63 forwards.

Canada’s National Men’s Summer Under-18 selection camp

Seven of the 44 players attending Canada’s National Under-18 selection camp are GTHL grads, all currently playing at the OHJL or OHL level.

Taking place from July 29 to August 2, the U18 camp will include four goaltenders, 16 defencemen, and 24 forwards. A total of 22 players will be selected for Canada’s National Men’s Summer Under-18 Team for the 2016 U18 Ivan Hlinka Memorial Cup, taking place August 8 to 12 in Breclav, Czech Republic and Bratislava, Slovakia.

Alumni of the tournament include GTHL grads Mitch Marner, Dylan Strome, Tyler Seguin, and more.

Canada’s National Junior Team Sport Chek Development Camp

After a disappointing World Junior performance in Helsinki, Finland, Canada’s National Junior Team will try to redeem themselves on home soil in 2017. Their campaign for gold will start with the National Junior Team Sport Chek Development Camp in Toronto from July 30-August 2.

Forty-one players, including four goaltenders, 14 defencemen, and 23 forwards will participate. In total, 22 players will be selected to represent Canada at the 2017 IIHF World Junior Championship in Toronto and Montreal.  Five GTHL grads have been invited to the camp.
