Recap: Midget “AAA” All-Star Game

Forty-two Midget “AAA” players can now add ‘all-star’ to their hockey resumes. With OHL Cup titles and OHL prospects scattered across the two squads, the 18th annual Midget “AAA” All-Star Game was an opportunity for players to size up against the best talent in their division.

Toronto Marlboros forward Owen Kosova would open the scoring for Team Red five minutes into the game off a pass from Toronto Young Nationals defenceman Peter Stojcevski, who would later add a goal to the game sheet to put his team up 2-0 heading into the second. The period would mark a shutout for Nats goaltender James Gray who fended off quality chances from Team Blue.

The second would see more dominance from Team Red, who dressed players from the first place Nats and second place Mississauga Rebels. Kosova would notch his second of the game, while Owen Sound Attack prospect Ryan O’Toole would score unassisted to put Team Red up 4-0 heading into the second.

Team Blue would get on the board in the third when Hamilton Bulldogs prospect Ryan Tverberg connected with North York Rangers forward Duncan Scullion to put one past netminder Oscar Carsley. Team Blue would score once more thanks to Toronto Red Wings forward Steve Katsis, but it wouldn’t be long before Team Red would retaliate on a breakaway goal by Toronto Titans Ryan O’Donnell. The nail would be put in the coffin on an empty net goal by Toronto Titans forward Josh Belgrave.

Toronto Marlboros Owen Kosova would earn MVP honours for Team Red with two goals on the night, while Ryan Tverberg accepted the honours for Team Blue. Final score was 6-2 for Team Red.
