Reps win U18 Central Region Championship, clinch spot in 2022 TELUS Cup

It was an all-Greater Toronto Hockey League battle for the 2022 Under-18 Hockey Canada Central Region Championship on Sunday afternoon.

For the second time in tournament play, the Reps and the Toronto Young Nationals faced off. Following a 4-4 tie on day three of round robin play, the Reps emerged as champions this time around with a 3-1 result. The win clinched one of five national spots in the 2022 TELUS Cup for the Reps.

As the host of the Central Regional, the Nationals – also the reigning TELUS Cup champions (2019) – were fourth in the GTHL with a 13-6-9 record in the regular season, but claimed top spot in the GTHL with their perfect postseason play.

The Reps found themselves atop of the GTHL regular season standings with a 22-3-3 record, but fell in the playoff final to the Nationals.

The Reps only national championship appearance was in 2010 where they finished sixth.

The TELUS Cup begins on Monday, May 16 in Alberta, and will crown a champion on Sunday, May 22.
