Scotiabank GTHL Playoff Round Up: March 7

Minor Atom A West – Round 2 | First to six points
Two upsets highlighted the first round of the Minor Atom “A” West playoffs. After finishing nine points back of the fourth-seeded West Mall Lightning, the Toronto Eagles would finish their first playoff game against the Lightning with a loss. It would be only uphill from there as the Eagles went on to defeat the Lightning in five games.

With an even larger gap between them in regular season standings, the Vaughan Rangers and Avalanche matchup looked to be a sure win for the third place Rangers. Ultimately the sixth seeded Avalanche would come out on top in five games, with all games decided by one or fewer goals.

Minor Peewee AA West – Round 2 | First to six points
A close regular season resulted in a new champion in the West as the Toronto Eagles defeated the Streetsville Tigers. Both the Tigers and the Eagles have continued their dominance in the playoffs as the Eagles look to steal another championship.

Peewee AAA – Round 2 | First to eight points
After earning the title of 2016-17 Scotiabank GTHL Playoff champs for the Minor Peewee “AAA” division, the Toronto Titans will not repeat as champions after being eliminated in the first round. Who will take the title of 2017-18 Scotiabank GTHL Playoff champs?

With both the first place Toronto Aeros and second place West Hill Golden Hawks sweeping their respective first-round series’, the Golden Hawks will aim to repeat as city champions, while the Aeros will sure to be on the hunt for more hardware after scooping up the 2017-18 GTHL Regular Season Championship.

Going into the playoffs as the fourth-seeded team, the West Mall Lightning were successful in fending off the first place Humber Valley Sharks in the first round of the Scotiabank GTHL Playoffs. Will they be able to pull off another upset as they head into the second round against the second-seeded Vaughan Panthers?
