Already in the second round of Scotiabank GTHL playoffs, the East has seen its share of surprises. The fifth-seeded North York Knights, who managed to defeat the fourth place Ted Reeve Thunder in the first round, ended their first game against first place Forest Hill in a scoreless draw. Meanwhile, two weekend games between North Toronto and the Leaside Flames both ended in a 2-2 tie. The two teams exchanged wins back and forth all season long, with both teams ending the season with identical 25-7-4 records.

The first round is just finishing up in the West, with the higher seeded team-leading each of the four series’. A Family Day win for the Duffield Devils secured a series sweep. They will await their opponent for round two, with the Mississauga North Stars currently leading the Mississauga Terriers 4-0 in the series.

All four series’ in the East kicked off this weekend, with the higher seeded team winning the first game in all instances, except the Goulding Park Rangers. The Rangers fell 5-3 to the fifth seeded Willowdale Blackhawks on Sunday. The Blackhawks won three out of the four regular season games against the Rangers this season. Third place York Mills recorded back-to-back wins against the Knights, with only one more win needed for the series sweep.

In the West, both the Vaughan Rangers and Toronto Wolverines advanced to the second round over the weekend. The second place Toronto Eagles could advance on Wednesday with a win or a tie, to face the Wolverines in the second round. A win for either the Avalanche or Vaughan Panthers this week would put them up against the first place Rangers in round two. The Panthers and Avalanche series is currently tied at four.
