The NHL/NHLPA First Shift program is designed to ensure a positive experience for new-to-hockey families. First Shift is open to all Canadian children between the ages of 6 and 10 years old that have never previously been registered in minor hockey.  The program aims to give families a positive hockey experience, helps them to understand why so many Canadians feel an inherent love for the sport, and to stimulate a desire for continued participation. First Shift takes away any intimidation as it relates to equipment requirements, and/or rules of the game removes potential safety concerns, and most importantly, provides an experience that is memorable and fun.

For $199, participants receive a full set of Bauer equipment that they can keep, and six on-ice sessions that include fun drills and activities.

To date, more than 15,500 Canadian boys and girls have been introduced to Canada’s game through the First Shift, with many programs filling up on the first day of registration.
