Team Ontario is golden at the 2023 Canada Winter Games in Prince Edward Island.

In a thrilling match-up with Team Saskatchewan, Team Ontario came out on top with a 3-2 double overtime victory on February 25. As part of Team Ontario, five Greater Toronto Hockey League players are bringing home gold led by an all-GTHL coaching staff:

  • Jack Ivankovic, Goaltender (Mississauga Senators)
  • Jaeden Nelson, Goaltender (Toronto Marlboros)
  • Nico Addy, Forward (Toronto Jr. Canadiens)
  • William Moore, Forward (Toronto Marlboros)
  • Matheas Stark, Forward (Toronto Marlboros)
  • Steve Devine, Head Coach
  • Cyril Bollers, Associate Coach
  • David Cicchini, Associate Coach

William Moore finished the tournament ninth overall in points with 10 (four goals and six assists). The two-time GTHL Top Prospect concluded the tournament with an assist in the final.

Fellow Toronto Marlboro Matheas Stark tallied four points (one goal and three assists), and Toronto Jr. Canadiens’ Nico Addy recorded two goals on the tournament.

Held every four years, the Canada Winter Games showcases the top Under-16 hockey talent in the country that sees one province or territory emerge as the best in the nation. Team Ontario entered this year’s competition as the defending men’s hockey silver medalists four years ago in Red Deer, Alberta.

Team Ontario went 5-1 in the tournament, with its only loss coming in the preliminary round to Alberta in overtime.

From February 18 until March 5, 2023, the eyes of the nation will be on PEI as they host the 2023 Canada Winter Games – the largest multi-sport and cultural event for youth in Canada.
