The Professional Women’s Hockey League held its inaugural draft on Monday, September 18. The draft saw a total of 90 selections through 15 rounds. Of the 90 players selected, six are alumni of the Greater Toronto Hockey League.
Jaime Bourbonnais (Mississauga Jets) led the way among former GTHL players, selected by New York in the second round, ninth overall. Sophie Jaques (Humber Valley Sharks) followed at 10th overall to Boston.
Toronto selected hometown favourite Natalie Spooner (West Mall Lightning) in the fourth round (23rd overall), with Daryl Watts (Mississauga Braves) and Jessica Digirolamo (Mississauga North Stars) going 32nd and 34th overall in the sixth round to Ottawa and Boston respectively.
Rounding out the six, Emma Buckles (Don Mills Flyers) was the third GTHL alumnus selected by Boston in the 13th round (75th overall).
The inaugural draft featured a pool of 268-draft eligible players. Of the 268, 18 were alumni of the GTHL.
Prior to the draft, GTHL alumnus Laura Stacey (Toronto Royals) was signed by Montreal.
