Inaugural Movember Moustache Cup tournament raises over $40,000 with U14 ‘A’ Lorne Park Clarkson Wild sweeping championships

On November 17-19, the Greater Toronto Hockey League, in partnership with Movember, hosted the inaugural Movember Moustache Cup ‘A’ tournament at Scotiabank Pond. As the tournament hosted 32 teams across four non-contact ‘A’ divisions of Under-14, U15, U16, and U18, the U14 Lorne Park Clarkson Wild swept the championships on and off the ice.

Ahead of the tournament, teams were encouraged to participate in the Movember Moustache Cup Fundraising Challenge. A total of 16 teams registered for the challenge, collectively raising $42,701 in support of Movember. The U14 Wild finished atop of the leaderboard with $14,670.92 raised. As winners of the Fundraising Challenge, the Wild were given pro-treatment with the GTHL’s dressing room to use as their own for the duration of the tournament, along with Movember packages for each player.

In second, the U18 Leaside Flames raised $12,134.06 and were surprised with recognition and Movember packages for each player for their efforts. Rounding out the top five were the U15 Don Mills Mustangs in third with $3,730.00 raised, the U16 Meadowvale Hawks in fourth with $1480.00, and the U14 West Hill Golden Hawks with a total of $1,385.00. As part of the Fundraising Challenge, Movember invited former Toronto Maple Leaf fan favourite Darcy Tucker as the tournament’s special guest. Teams and individuals who had registered for the challenge and had a minimum of at least one donation were able to participate in the meet and greet.

On the ice, the inaugural champions and finalists included:

U14 ‘A’ DIVISION

  • Champion: Lorne Park Clarkson Wild
  • Finalist: York Mills

U15 ‘A’ DIVISION

  • Champion: Avenue Road Ducks
  • Finalist: Ted Reeve Thunder

U16 ‘A’ DIVISION 

  • Champion: Applewood Coyotes
  • Finalist: West Mall Lightning

U18 ‘A’ DIVISION 

  • Champion: Waterloo Wolves
  • Finalist: Leaside Flames
