GTHL Wraps Up 2012-13 Season At Its Annual General Meeting

The Greater Toronto Hockey League wrapped up its 101st season at its Annual General Meeting on Saturday June 15.

At the meeting, the positions for the Board of Directors for the 2013-14 season were acclaimed. Those positions were filled by President John Gardner, 1st Vice-President Ken Smith, 2nd Vice-President Don West, 3rd Vice-President John Neville, Treasurer John Trimble and Directors Bob Cranston, Chick Evans, David Leathem, Mike Lewicki, Gordon McDonald, Geoff Shaw, Duncan Stauth and Wally Turner.

GTHL President John Gardner awarded long time City of Vaughan Hockey volunteer Al Doria with the George Chamandy Award. The George Chamandy Memorial Trophy is presented to the individual who, in the opinion of the GTHL Board of Directors, has contributed a supreme effort during the years to the fostering and promotion of Minor Hockey. This trophy is the highest award presented to any individual by the GTHL.

The GTHL also presented its Audited Financial Statements for the fiscal year end of April 30, 2013.

The membership heard reports from the President, Executive Director, Membership and Categorization Committee, Rules and Policy Committee and a presentation on Long Term Athlete Development.

The membership also considered and ratified several rule and regulation amendments including a commitment to review the implementation of Body Checking with the potential of removing it from the Alevel of hockey beginning in the 2014-15 season on a progressive basis.

The Greater Toronto Hockey League is the largest amateur hockey league in the world and is celebrated its 100th Anniversary during the 2011-12 season. There are over 40,000 participants registered in the GTHL annually. The Greater Toronto Hockey League is a proud member of the Ontario Hockey Federation, Hockey Development Centre of Ontario and Hockey Canada.
