GTHL’s second annual Indigenous Hockey Equipment Drive a success

For the second consecutive season, the Greater Toronto Hockey League hosted an Indigenous Hockey Equipment Drive in support of Indigenous youth in Ontario. The drive took place as part of the Under-18 All-Star Festival fuelled by Gatorade and the I Play in the G Festival on January 25 at Scotiabank Pond.

The drive was a great success, bringing in 115 full hockey bags and 132 hockey sticks. Special mentions go out to Owen from the Port Credit Hockey Association, as well as Nico and the North Toronto Hockey Association for significant contributions donated.

“Working with the GTHL over the past few years has assisted our organization in collecting hundreds of bags of gently used gear and an added bonus is the amount of goodwill that is created amongst all the members of the GTHL community,” said Graham McWaters, Founder of the Indigenous Hockey Equipment Drive. “This annual collection event is heartwarming and fun to attend.”

The Indigenous Hockey Equipment Drive is one of the main pillars of diversity and inclusion with Their Opportunity, which assist with planning, logistics, social media, and the online presence for the cash donations to buy new helmets and support any transportation costs.
