12 GTHL alumni selected in the 2023 NHL Entry Draft

The Greater Toronto Hockey League congratulates the 12 alumni selected in the 2023 NHL Entry Draft on Wednesday, June 28 and Thursday, June 29 in Nashville.

The first round featured Adam Fantilli (third overall) and Colby Barlow (18th overall).

Fantilli, an OHL Cup Finalist with the Toronto Red Wings in 2019 and former captain of the Toronto Jr. Canadiens, entered the 2023 NHL Draft as the Hobey Baker Award winner as the top men’s player in NCAA hockey this past season. Selected by the Columbus Blue Jackets, Fantilli led NCAA players with 65 points and was tied for first with 30 goals in 36 games. In addition to a long list of accomplishments, including five points en route to helping Canada win gold at the 2023 IIHF World Junior Championship and a second gold at the 2023 IIHF World Championship, Fantilli brought everyone who had helped him get to this moment with him – in suit form.

Barlow, the youngest captain in Owen Sound Attack (OHL) history, closed out the 2022-23 campaign with 79 points (46 goals, 33 assists) in 59 games. Off the ice, Barlow was recognized as the Ontario Hockey League’s scholastic player of the year with the Bobby Smith Trophy. Along with his veteran leadership abilities, Barlow also seemed to impress the Winnipeg Jets organization with his beard.

The second round saw the most former GTHL players selected with Carson Rehkopf (50th overall), Carey Terrance (59th overall), and Tristan Bertucci (61st overall).

There was at least one GTHL alumnus selected in each of the seven rounds, with six GTHL clubs represented.
