September is a jam packed month when it comes to hockey in the city of Toronto. Not only does the GTHL kick-off its regular season, but there are also countless tournaments and hockey related events to check out.
Toronto Titans International Minor Midget Prospects Tournament
September 7 – 11, Scotiabank Pond
Entering its 9th annual year, the Toronto Titans Minor Midget Prospects Tournament will feature minor midget AAA teams from across Ontario and the northern United States. Toronto Titans GM Eric Cella told the Hockey Writers that the tournament has become heavily recruited, observing that there’s often more scouts than parents in the crowd. Most GTHL AAA clubs are scheduled to compete.
The Hockey Show Toronto
September 10 – 11, Downsview Park
While you’re in-between games at the Titans tournament, head across the street to the Hockey Show Toronto to pick up all your hockey necessities. The one-of-a-kind trade show will include product demonstrations, a speaker series, interactive exhibits, and the latest in hockey apparel. Tickets can be purchased here.
GTHL Schedule Begins
September 12 – 19
The GTHL AAA schedule goes into high gear starting September 12 with 6 games lined up at Westwood Arena. The AA and A clubs follow behind just a week later on September 19.
World Cup of Hockey
September 17 – October 1
Over 150 of the best hockey players in the world will take over the Air Canada Centre starting September 17 as part of the World Cup of Hockey. The two-week tournament will feature 8 teams competing in a best-on-best international championship. Teams will feature many GTHL alumni including Tyler Seguin, Alex Pietrangelo, Connor McDavid, and more.
Puck Drop Weekend
September 24 – 25, Canlan Ice Sports, York University
Get ready to #dropthepuck. One of the Greater Toronto Hockey League’s newest traditions, Puck Drop Weekend kicks off the hockey season with a full slate of games along with an abundance of off-ice entertainment.
The event hosts nearly 200 GTHL teams who compete in a regular season game at Canlan Ice Sports at York University. Proceeds from Puck Drop Weekend go toward the GTHL Legacy Fund, which was established in 2011 to provide financial assistance to GTHL families in need.
