Around the G: Dec.1-3

With all the focus on the Atom age group last week at the PlayStation Platinum Cup, it’s time to look at the other end of the spectrum with some older age groups. Here’s what happened during the first weekend of December around the G.

Bantam AAA

Weekend wins for the second place Toronto Marlboros (17-4-0) and third place Toronto Young Nationals (16-4-1) saw both teams creep closer to the first place Don Mills Flyers (19-1-0). The Flyers only loss this season has come at the hands of the Nats, who are currently in the midst of a six game winning streak. The Flyers next game is scheduled for Tuesday, December 5 against the North York Rangers (12-6-3). The Rangers extended their winning streak to six on Friday after a 2-0 victory over the Markham Majors (3-14-4).

Other finals from Bantam AAA weekend action:

Toronto Red Wings 4, Jr. Canadiens 1
Markham Majors 2, Mississauga Senators 2

Midget A

The top teams in the division inched a little closer to one another over the weekend, leaving the top five teams within four points of one another. The Vaughan Panthers (10-5-4) wiggled their way into second place after recording a tie and a win over the weekend.

Even after having the weekend off, the Toronto Aeros (12-2-2) remain in first with three games in hand over the second place Panthers. They will be put to the test on Saturday, December 9 when they face the Toronto Eagles (11-5-1). The Eagles extended their winning streak to three over the weekend after a 6-1 win over North Toronto (5-8-4).

Other finals from Midget A weekend action:

North Toronto 4, North York Knights 3
Ted Reeve Thunder 4, Humber Valley Sharks 0

Midget AA

The Ted Reeve Thunder (15-2-0) look determined to defend their Scotiabank GTHL Playoff title from the 2016-17 season after extending their winning streak to nine over the weekend. The Streetsville Tigers (9-8-0), who fell to the Thunder in the finals, currently sit in fourth after a spotty start to the season. Teams should also keep an eye on the second place Humberview Huskies (12-3-1) who haven’t lost a game since early November.

Other finals from Midget AA weekend action:

North Toronto 4, North York Knights 3
Ted Reeve Thunder 4, Humber Valley Sharks 0
