2015 OHL Cup – Minor Midget Rankings

The Ontario Hockey League will release weekly minor midget rankings ahead of the upcoming 2015 OHL Cup, which will be hosted by the Greater Toronto Hockey League beginning Tuesday, Mar. 17 at Scotiabank Pond (formerly Buckingham Arena), with the final at Mattamy Athletic Centre on Monday, Mar. 23.

The weekly rankings are determined by a panel of OHL Central Scouting Staff and represent the top teams that are competing to play in the annual year-end championship tournament.

2:00 p.m.: Mississauga Rebels (GTHL) vs. Elgin-Middlesex (ALLIANCE)

4:00 p.m.: Toronto Red Wings (GTHL) vs. North Central Predators (OMHA)


 

The 2015 OHL Cup will once again include 20 participating teams from across Ontario and the United States, with 17 of the 20 spots guaranteed through league competition. The 17 guaranteed spots include:

  • four semi-finalists from the Greater Toronto Hockey League,
  • four teams that place at the Ontario Minor Hockey Association Championship,
  • three clubs from the ALLIANCE (champion, finalist and winner of a best-of-three Semi-Final Wild Card Series to be played between losers of the two league semi-finals),
  • two teams from the Ottawa East Minor Hockey League (champion and finalist),
  • two United States entries,
  • one Hockey Northwestern Ontario representative, and
  • one NOHA representative.

As introduced last season, the final three Wild Card spots will be determined among six teams that will play a one game ‘win and in’ scenario. The six competing teams aiming for the final three tournament spots will include the fifth place team at the OMHA Championship, the loser of the ALLIANCE Semi-Final Wild Card Series, and four teams named by the Tournament Selection Committee based on regular season, playoff, and tournament play.
