GTHL Announces Team Entries For the 2010-11 Season

“573 Teams To Participate In The Worlds Largest Minor Hockey League”

TORONTO (Friday, March 5, 2010) – The Greater Toronto Hockey League (GTHL) today announced the teams that its Clubs have been granted for entry into the GTHL for the 2010-11 season. The Board of Directors of the GTHL have approved the participation of 573 entries from 50 different “A”, “AA” and “AAA” Hockey Clubs and Associations.

“The GTHL Membership and Categorization Committee had the difficult task of determining which teams should be awarded.” said GTHL President John Gardner. “Out of the 620 requests for teams, the Committee felt these 573 were the strongest applications, and we wish each and every one of them the best of luck next season.”

For the first time ever, the Scarborough Hockey Association will be entering a direct entry team in each “A” division. This entry is part of the restructuring plan of the Scarborough Hockey

Association which will see the recategorization of a new division called “Minor Development” which will operate similar to the current SHA competitive program along with the House League and Select program offered by the Scarborough Youth Hockey League.

The GTHL is also restructuring its Midget division next season offering both a Midget Jr. League for 16 year olds and a Midget League for 16 and 17 year old players.

Tryouts will commence on April 12, 2010. The 2010-11 hockey season will begin for “AAA” hockey on September 13 and the “AA” and “A” division will begin on September 20.

The Greater Toronto Hockey League is the largest amateur hockey league in the world. There are over 40,000 participants registered annually with the GTHL.
