Eligibility:
Presented annually by the GTHL Supervisors to the official who displays a balance between positive attitude, dedication, competence, and improvement.

ROB SILC MEMORIAL COMMUNITY COACHING AWARD

Any registered coach in the 2024-25 season from a house league within the jurisdiction of the GTHL.
DR. TOM PASHBY TRAINER OF THE YEAR AWARD

Any registered and rostered trainer in the 2024-25 season on a house league or competitive team in the GTHL.

Established in 1953, the George Chamandy Memorial Trophy was developed to recognize an individual’s long-standing commitment to hockey in the Greater Toronto Area. George Chamandy was a supporter of the Toronto Hockey League (now the GTHL) in the 1940s. The THL Board of Directors named this award in his memory after his passing in 1952.
The George Chamandy Memorial Trophy is presented to the individual (non-GTHL Executive) who, in the opinion of the GTHL Board of Directors, has contributed a supreme effort to the promotion and fostering of minor hockey in Toronto, Mississauga, Vaughan and/or Markham. This trophy is the highest award presented to any individual by the GTHL.

Established in 2001 by GTHL President John Gardner, the John R. Gardner Special Recognition Award was developed to recognize those players who have displayed inspirational courage in overcoming adversity while maintaining a dedication and commitment to competing in hockey.
The award is presented by the Greater Toronto Hockey League to GTHL players (Competitive, Select, or House League) who have experienced a significant event in their lives and have managed to overcome the adversity and continued playing the game of hockey.

Established in 2005, the Herb Ebisuzaki Coaching Award recognizes an outstanding minor hockey coach. The award is presented by the GTHL to a coach (Competitive, Select, or House League) who best exemplifies the true spirit of coaching, including the capability to improve performance of an individual or team while ensuring each player’s experience is a priority.
Herb Ebisuzaki was the Technical Director of Coaching for the GTHL, a position he held from 1995 to 2014. Herb is a retired teacher and played a leading role in championing further development of minor hockey coaching programs in Canada, serving as an outstanding ambassador for the GTHL.
This award is presented in his name to recognize his hard work and dedication to the game, while representing the GTHL with dignity, class, and honour.

Established in 2024, the Herbert H. Carnegie Award will recognize a forward-thinking GTHL organization that has demonstrated leadership in creating and promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion, in addition to commitment to community development and outreach. The award was established in collaboration with the Carnegie family.
The GTHL organization will be required to share a letter outlining the demonstrated leadership in the areas of diversity, equity, and inclusion, along with community development and outreach, in an effort to better service their community. The GTHL organization will also require a statement or letter of support from two sources who have been positively impacted by the initiatives undertaken by the nominated organization. The GTHL Awards Committee will work with the Carnegie family to make a nominated recommendation to the GTHL Board of Directors to finalize the recipient of the award.

Established in 2018, the Rob Silc Community Coaching Award recognizes a long time, committed house league hockey coach. The award is presented by the GTHL to a House League coach who best exemplifies a long term commitment to grassroots hockey, player enjoyment, and community spirit.
Rob Silc was a long time volunteer coach with the Scarborough Hockey Association. He passed away unexpectedly while doing something he loved more than anything, coaching his son’s hockey team. This award is presented in his name to recognize his commitment and dedication to the game, to his community and to his family.

The George F. Dufton U18 ‘AAA’ Scholarship Award recognizes a U18 ‘AAA’ player who achieves a high standard of excellence academically and in hockey. The award is a one-time post-secondary educational scholarship of $2,000 provided by the Don Mills Flyers Hockey Club.
George F. Dufton was an outstanding student and athlete in his youth, and won a university scholarship but his family did not have the additional funds for him to attend. George worked in a tannery during the Great Depression of the 1930s and never had the opportunity to attend university.
Dufton later founded the Don Mills Flyers in 1968. This scholarship was established in his honour in 1993, four years after he passed away at age 77.

Established in 2005, the J. Norman Sharp U18 ‘AA’ Scholarship Award recognizes a U18 ‘AA’ player who achieves a high standard of excellence academically and in hockey. The Award is a one-time post-secondary educational scholarship of $2,000 provided by the GTHL.
J. Norman Sharp was the President of the Toronto Hockey League (now the GTHL) from 1954 to 1956. Mr. Sharp joined the THL Board of Directors as the College Representative in 1940 and continued on the Board as a Director until he became Third Vice President in 1950, where he served two years before being elected to First Vice President in 1952. After his term as President, Mr. Sharp served three years as Treasurer.

Established in 2005, the Frank D. Smith U18 ‘A’ Scholarship Award was developed to recognize a U18 ‘A’ player who achieves a high standard of excellence academically and in hockey. The Award is a one-time post-secondary educational scholarship of $2,000 provided by the GTHL.
Frank D. Smith was the founder of the Toronto Hockey League (now the GTHL) in 1911. He remained Secretary of the League for 50 years. His vision allowed the League to develop rapidly, while his passion and focus remained on the children and the game.
Smith was known as a man “who put so much into the game without expecting to get anything out of it”. He started many programs that exist today in the GTHL, including the King Clancy tournament. Frank D. Smith was inducted into the builder’s category of the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1961.
Eligibility: Any registered U18 ‘A’ player in the 2024-25 season from the GTHL or Mississauga Hockey League.

Established in 2005, the Len Barrett U18 House League Scholarship Award recognizes a U18 House League Player who achieves a high standard of excellence academically and in hockey. The Award is a one-time post-secondary educational scholarship of $2,000 provided by the GTHL.
Len Barrett was the GTHL Treasurer from 1975 to 1994 and was made an honorary Life Member of the GTHL in 1995. He was deemed the father the GTHL’s modern accounting system. Len’s leadership skills were acknowledged well beyond the GTHL, as he was also the first treasurer of the Ontario Hockey Federation.
Eligibility:
Any registered U18 House League player in the 2024-25 season from the GTHL or Mississauga Hockey League.

The Roy Pejcinovski Memorial Goaltending Character Award was developed to recognize and honour a Goaltender who demonstrates extraordinary community service. The Awards aim is to highlight positive role models and examples of goaltenders who demonstrate positive character in sports. Each year, the GTHL honours one outstanding youth athlete who has demonstrated extraordinary service in the community while modeling the basic traits of good character: trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, fairness, caring and citizenship to represent the GTHL.
Roy Pejcinovski was a goaltender with the Don Mills Flyers U15 “AAA” team. His life was taken far too early. Roy was much more than just a goalie. He was a caring compassionate teammate. He was respected and admired by opponents and loved by teammates. Roy had a passion for people and the community. He was a leader among leaders.
The Greater Toronto Hockey League presents the Award annually to the Goaltender of any age and category. The Award is a $2000 bursary to any recognized Goaltending School or training program or to be used towards post-secondary education.
Eligibility:
Any registered goaltender in the 2024-25 season within the GTHL jurisdiction.
