On March 3, 2023, the Greater Toronto Hockey League issued a statement advising of an indefinite suspension issued to a representative from a GTHL organization as the result of comments made during a Members Forum on March 2, 2023.
The GTHL first reported the matter to the Hockey Canada Safe Sport reporting mechanism on March 3, 2023. The Independent Third Party declined jurisdiction over the matter. The Honourable Anne Mullins, a retired Ontario Superior Court Justice, was appointed to review and adjudicate the matter as arbitrator.
The respondent and their counsel had a full opportunity to advocate their position to the independent arbitrator.
On September 5, 2023, Ms. Mullins released her ruling, issuing a permanent suspension to the individual involved. The GTHL supports Ms. Mullins’ decision. This suspension will apply across the Hockey Canada system. This decision is subject to appeal to the Ontario Hockey Federation and Hockey Canada.
By way of policy, the GTHL does not release the names of individuals who are the subject of disciplinary action.
The GTHL remains fully committed to providing an open and welcoming environment for all participants in the game of hockey.
