A four-goal second period propelled the Vaughan Kings to Silver Stick supremacy on Sunday at the Iroquois Park Sports Centre in Whitby. Alexander Hage’s second period power play tally stood up as the game winner in a 5-3 win over the Toronto Marlboros as Vaughan finished out the tournament with a 6-0-1 record, the last team standing of the 30 U16 AAA squads participating.

OHL Priority Selection prospects Joey Kapel, Clarence Allain, Gage Brandon and Allesandro Di Iorio also found the scoresheet for Vaughan while Cole Emerton picked up a pair of assists and Joseph D’Angelo secured the win in goal.

“All of the kids look forward to that OHL Cup weekend,” said Vaughan head coach and OHL alumnus Daniel Sisca after the win. “We’re looking forward to it. We need to re-focus after this big win here. We have a tough month of December against some top teams in the GTHL. We look forward to the playoffs and then the OHL Cup.”

Marlboros forward Adam Valentini led the event in scoring with an impressive 20 points (9-11–20) in just seven games while the Oakville Rangers trio of Ryder Carey (8-5–13), Evan Headrick (2-10–12) and Ethan Belchetz (5-6–11) came in close behind.

Vaughan defeated the Pittsburgh Penguins Elite 5-0 on Sunday morning to reach the Championship Final while the Marlboros were 3-1 winners over Oakville in the semi-finals.

Vaughan was the second-ranked team on the Week 1 edition of OHL Cup Top-10 Rankings last week while the Marlboros came in at third. This week’s edition will be released on Tuesday afternoon.
