GTHL Concussion Centre

In December 2015, the GTHL and Concussion Centre at Holland Bloorview Kids Rehabilitation Hospital announced a comprehensive five-year collaboration. The partnership enhanced minor hockey player safety through the implementation of a first-of-its-kind integrated concussion strategy.

Informed by experts in youth concussion from the Holland Bloorview Kids Rehabilitation Hospital Concussion Centre, these concussion resources are designed to help with concussion education, management, and recovery.

GTHL Concussion Policy

The GTHL has taken measures to become a leader in concussion prevention and education to prioritize the safety of its players. The concussion policy ensures players who are suspected to have sustained a concussion during GTHL activity do not return before being medically cleared by a professional.

Rowan’s Law

Rowan’s Law was created in memory of Rowan Stringer, a high school rugby player who tragically passed away from a concussion-related injury. In Ontario, Rowan’s Law makes it mandatory for athletes, parents/guardians, coaches, officials, and team trainers to be aware of the signs and dangers of concussions.
