TORONTO, ON — The Greater Toronto Hockey League is proud to congratulate Jonathan Arnone, the recipient of the 2026 Len Barrett Under-18 House League Scholarship Award. The award is a one-time $2,000 post-secondary scholarship provided by the GTHL recognizing a U18 House League player who excels both academically and in hockey.
Established in 2005 and named in honour of Len Barrett, a longtime GTHL Treasurer and Life Member, the award celebrates dedication and leadership — qualities Barrett exemplified throughout his career. Serving as GTHL Treasurer from 1975 to 1994, he was regarded as the father of the League’s modern accounting system. Barrett’s impact extended well beyond the GTHL, as he also became the first Treasurer of the Ontario Hockey Federation.
Arnone, a City of Vaughan Hockey Association (CVHA) House League player, has consistently demonstrated a commitment to excellence in the classroom, on the ice, and in the community. Throughout high school, Arnone has maintained a 92 per cent average and has earned honour roll recognition every year since Grade 8. His strength and interest in mathematics were recognized with the Grade 8 Math Award, while his continued involvement in his school’s math club has allowed him to further develop his problem-solving and analytical thinking skills.
Beyond hockey, Arnone is involved in baseball and works as a swim instructor, experiences that have helped him build teamwork, discipline, patience, leadership, and communication skills. Balancing athletics, academics, and employment has strengthened his commitment to self-development while preparing him for the next chapter of his educational journey.
Arnone hopes to attend the Schulich School of Business at York University to pursue a degree in business administration, building a foundation in finance, management, leadership, and strategic decision-making. Following his undergraduate studies, he plans to attend law school with the goal of combining his interests in business and law.
Arnone received the award during the 2026 GTHL Awards Gala presented by Nothers the Award Store on June 4 at the Hockey Hall of Fame. Barrett’s son, Dan, handed out the award. As addition once again to this year’s GTHL Awards Gala, Esso provided each recipient with a $250 gas card to further fuel their journeys.
“I am truly honoured and grateful to be receiving this scholarship today,” Arnone shared in his acceptance speech. “Being chosen for this scholarship means a great deal to me and I’m very thankful for this recognition.”
Arnone also expressed his appreciation for those who have supported him throughout his academic and hockey journeys.
“I would also like to thank my family for their endless support, encouragement, and belief in me throughout my academic journey and my hockey journey,” Arnone said. “Their guidance and sacrifices have helped me reach this point and I’m equally grateful to my teachers, coaches, and mentors who have challenged me to grow, work hard, and strive to be my best every day.”
For Arnone, receiving the scholarship serves as both recognition of his achievements and motivation for what lies ahead.
“Receiving this scholarship is both an honour and a motivation — it encourages me to continue pursuing my goals and dedication and to make the most of the opportunities ahead,” Arnone said. “I’m excited for what the future holds and I am committed to continuing to learn, grow, and to give back to my community.”

The GTHL once again congratulates Jonathan Arnone on a well-deserved honour.
