Reminder: GTHL Social Media Policy & Community Code

At the GTHL, we believe in creating a safe, respectful, and positive environment both on the ice and online. As the new 2025-26 hockey season approaches, the League is sharing a friendly reminder to all players, parents, bench staff, officials, and supporters: our Social Media Policy and Community Code apply at all times — whether you’re in the stands, in the dressing room, or outside the rink.

Why It Matters

  • Your online behaviour reflects not just on you, but on your team, those who support you, and the GTHL as a whole.
  • Posting inappropriate content or engaging in harmful interactions can damage reputations, relationships, and trust.
  • Misuse of social media can have lasting consequences — even posts that are deleted can be archived or shared.

Key Guidelines to Keep in Mind

1. Respect & Civil Discourse

      • Treat everyone — teammates, opponents, fans, officials — with courtesy, respect, and dignity.
      • The GTHL has zero tolerance for harassment, hate speech, bullying, or discriminatory remarks.
      • Debate ideas, not people.

      2. Protect and Respect Privacy

        • Do not post photos or videos from dressing rooms, private areas, or changing facilities.
        • Avoid filming and posting game footage unless approved by the GTHL.
        • Don’t share personal, medical, or otherwise sensitive information (yours or someone else’s).

        3. Think Before You Post

          • Does this post align with the values of fair play, respect, and team spirit?
          • Could this post be misinterpreted or taken out of context?
          • Once content is out there, it’s very hard to take back — even deleting something can’t guarantee it’s fully removed from archives or screenshots.

          4. Enforcement & Reporting

            • Violations of the Social Media Policy and Community Code may result in warnings, education sessions, disciplinary action, or suspension.
            • If you see or experience harmful conduct, you’re encouraged to:
              1. Report it directly to the social media platform.
              2. If it involves the GTHL or its participants directly, report it to [email protected].
              3. If safety is in question, contact local police.

            Let’s Uphold the GTHL Standard

The GTHL loves to see the passion, camaraderie, and energy that make our community special. When everyone behaves responsibly online, we strengthen the GTHL community and protect the integrity of the game. Let’s continue to support each other and represent the best of hockey — on and off the ice.
