Introducing Tape to Tape, a new GTHL educational series connecting players and families with trusted experts from across the hockey community and beyond.
Each episode goes beyond the game to share practical advice, insights, and strategies designed to help GTHL players develop on and off the ice. From training and nutrition to mental well-being, equipment, recovery, and more, Tape to Tape brings knowledge directly to the GTHL community — helping players build positive habits, make informed decisions, and develop not only as athletes, but as people.
For our first episode, the GTHL connected with TPA Sports to explore an important question for young hockey players: Can playing less hockey sometimes help you become a better hockey player?
For young athletes, development is about more than time spent on the ice. Participating in different sports and activities can help athletes build physical literacy, develop new movement patterns, become more adaptable and reduce some of the physical demands associated with specializing in one sport too early.
Just as importantly, finding the right balance can help young players stay healthy, resilient, and excited about the game for years to come.
TPA Sports discusses why parents, coaches, and players should look beyond simply developing the hockey player and consider the bigger picture: developing the athlete.
