Timekeeping: Get Started

Timekeepers play an important role in every GTHL game. From managing the game clock to ensuring accurate records, you help keep the game running smoothly and professionally.

STEP 1

STEPS TO GET STARTED

  1. Review the Requirements and Responsibilities of a Timekeeper prior to applying (see below for more information).
  2. Contact Patty Micolino via email at [email protected] at the GTHL Office to inquire if there are any Timekeeper openings.

STEP 2

Requirements

To become a GTHL Timekeeper, you must:

  • Attend a Timekeeper Certification Clinic (training details will be posted before the start of the season).
  • Provide a Vulnerable Sector Check (VSC) if you are 18 years or older. 
  • Indicate your preferred location(s) within the city and your willingness to travel.
  • Arrive 30 minutes before game time and be present at the timekeepers’ area five minutes before warm-up begins. 
  • Report to the Rink Attendant upon arrival.
  • Remain in the timekeepers’ area for the entire game (never leave it unattended).

STEP 3

Responsibilities

As a GTHL Timekeeper, you will:

  • Operate GTHL game clocks and game sheet computer applications (via iPad).
  • Record all goals, assists, and penalties as reported by on-ice officials.
  • Ensure the correct jersey numbers of players scoring or receiving penalties are recorded on the game sheet (via iPad). 
  • Keep track of the time served by each penalized player during the game.
  • Record the start and finish time of each game, along with all actual playing time.
  • Provide additional support as requested by the Rink Attendant.
  • Manage your schedule: if you cannot work a shift, you are responsible for finding a replacement using the master email list (where shifts can be posted and picked up).

Please note this role is an Independent Contractor and not an employee of the GTHL.
