Two GTHL Officiating Alumni Selected for Hockey Canada Summer Events

Three members of the Greater Toronto Hockey League community have been selected to represent Hockey Canada at major events this summer.

Damian Figueira has been named as a referee for the 2026 Hlinka Gretzky Cup, taking place August 3-8 in Edmonton, Alberta.

Tara Benard-Rae will serve as a referee for the Women’s Series against the United States in Richmond, British Columbia.

Additionally, GTHL Executive Director and Chief Operating Officer Scott Oakman has also been selected as an officiating coach for the 2026 World Junior Summer Showcase, being held July 26 to August 1 in Windsor, Ontario.

The three are among 40 officials and a group of officiating coaches selected by Hockey Canada for international competitions across Alberta, British Columbia and Ontario.

These assignments are part of Hockey Canada’s Officiating Program of Excellence, which provides Canadian officials with development opportunities and a pathway toward top national and international events.

The GTHL congratulates Damian, Tara, and Scott on their selections and wishes them success in their respective assignments.
